The Fyshwick-based public sector specialist has replaced one of its 110ppm Océ VarioPrint 2110 printers with a duplex Océ VarioPrint 6320 Ultra, which hits a blistering 320 pages per minute.
Managing director David Daniel told ProPrint that he considered investing in a third 2110, but instead opted to swap one out and plump for the higher-end press.
“We’ve actually dropped a machine but picked up the extra capacity we would have got from a third machine as well as additional capacity of 100 pages per minute,” he said.
Daniel explained that while CanPrint hadn’t previously had a 6000 series machine, “Ligare has two of them”. The book printer operates a pair of VarioPrint 6250 presses at its Riverwood site.
“If you are a standalone company, you can’t examine yourself against a like business. This is the beauty of the group – looking for opportunities to do things a touch smarter,” added Daniel.
The 6320 can produce up to 1.5 million impression per month, and is equipped with a BLM bookletmaker, which opens up square-back finishing.
“I believe once you show [square-back finishing] to people and they see how good it finishes, it is a selling tool,” said Daniel.
CanPrint and Ligare are both part of Opus Print Group, which employs more than 400 staff and includes outdoor printers Cactus Imaging in Australia and Omnigraphics in New Zealand, as well as recent acquisition COS in Singapore.
