CGS launches new ORIS technologies at IPEX

“Now that inkjet proofing – especially ORIS proofing – has achieved widespread acceptance, we felt strongly that our colour technology had even greater potential elsewhere in the graphic arts process,” says CGS’ head of sales and marketing, Trevor Haworth.

“We began to do this last year in the pressroom with ORIS Ink Saver, and with high-end digital presses with ORIS Press Matcher. Now we are expanding even further, into packaging and wide format workflows. No one else offers this level of colour accuracy and dependability over these vital print markets.”

ORIS Package Pro™ is a major innovative step for CGS, and has been very well received by early adopters within the flexographic and gravure packaging markets.

Among its many new capabilities is the ability to work with multi−channel Generic Output Profiles (GOP) for efficient and cost-effective management of spot and custom colours often used in packaging. Accurate halftone proofing for both design files and final, pre-screened data is a significant part of the software – as is substrate simulation,

ORIS’ role in packaging is not limited to proofing. By using ORIS Press Matcher, RIPs for flexo and gravure production are able to achieve precise colour results – matching company identity colours and other critical colours on offset produced collateral.

Other devices are given high-end colour capabilities – as demonstrated by the Mimaki
UJF-605R demonstrated at the IPEX CGS stand. By applying ORIS colour control, this white ink UV device has been transformed into a powerful proofing tool for transparent foils and other media used by flexographic and gravure packaging printers.

Historically, ORIS has always provided a wide range of powerful automatic prepress and publishing workflows, using its Windows based ORIS Works system. At IPEX, CGS launched
ORIS Colour Server™, a web based version of the SQL database driven system.

Remote and soft proofing control will be on display at the stand, as well as PDF/X file conversion and an automatic process for determining how much will be saved in per file ink usage, based on ORIS Ink Saver.

Print buyers, designers, publishers and large prepress operations have shown particular interest in Colour Server’s potential for customer file submission, job tracking, and a host of other cost saving workflows.

The newest addition to the ORIS product line is ORIS Sign Master™. Capable of driving over 500 different wide format and grand format machines, Sign Master will bring the same level of colour match and consistency as CGS has shown for years with contract colour proofing.

The system, although very easy to use, offers an unparalleled level of colour fidelity for wide format work of all kinds, including point−of−sale and print−for−pay applications. By using ORIS Sign Master, sign making operations will be able to match their customers’ expectations regarding company ID colours and other critical colour elements of their brands.

CGS’ flagship product, ORIS Colour Tuner, was also highlighted at Ipex. The recently released version 5.2 features numerous enhancements in the areas of spot colour fidelity – especially in tint reproduction, new pre-flight controls, increased colour match speed, a new automatic calibration Wizard, significant enhancements to the ORIS

ORIS Certified Proof™ 1.3 was also shown, featuring advanced tracking of proofing device behaviour, the ability to verify monitor and press sheet standards compliance, and more.

CGS also launched ORIS ScreenDot Plus™, a revolutionary approach to halftone proofing, for pre-screened files as well as composite PDF and PostScript design files. CGS’ workflow modules are also on display, including ORIS Ink Saver™ for the pressroom and ORIS Press Matcher™ for virtually any output device – from CTP−based offset and gravure presses to the latest digital presses.
