Colour standards expert encourages printers to get on board

At the dinner briefings – Standards based printing: your passport to world colour – Kraushaar, head of the prepress division at world colour standards organisation Fogra, outlined that printers not considering internationally recognised standards as part of their business were in danger of being overtaken by competitors, taking a more quality orientated approach.

The events, held in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane were organised by the Australian TC130, a joint venture of Printing Industries and the Lithographic Institute of Australia, promoting the implementation of international standards into the Australian market, as a means of ensuring that the Australian industry can compete on a global basis.

According to Kraushaar, mistakes can cost a printer dearly, so it is best to avoid them in advance with colour standards giving printers the tools to keep ahead of the game.

He told gathered printers, “A standard is only as good as the people actively involved in keeping it on the forefront, and only participation allows us to actively revise existing and shape new standards. You should strongly consider the implementation of ISO standards.”

Kraushaar also said that colour standards were an integral part of making printing simpler, by eliminating costly and time consuming variables, adding the fewer variables involved, the more certain the production process becomes.

However, Kraushaar added that the implementation of standards, such as the new Australian Standard AS 12647-2 launched in August last year would not take away from company quality differentiation.
