Dung Tran and business partner Khon Tran have extensive backgrounds in the packaging industry, but started up their own boxing business in October last year at a new site in Wetherill Park, Sydney, with ten staff. The KTM is the the sole workhorse for the company’s operations. Clyde King, owner of distributor Kingtech Australia, says it is an ideal solution for making moderate run boxes/cartons or for converting other materials. He tells Australian Printer, “The machine does a 1,600 x 1,250mm cutting area – it’s quite a large, imposing 12,000 kilo chunk of metal actually, mind you we can supply them up to 3,000mm wide! “It’s probably been a while since a platen style die cutter like this was installed in Sydney, especially with CE standard safety guards and electronics – you more often see the big high-speed Bobst style die cutters or cylinders here now. “Those machines can’t always handle very thick or difficult materials due to the feeding and travel path though the machine, whereas with this style cutter you pick the material up by hand and it cuts the product flat, so you can cut foam, leather, all sorts of things.”
