Fairfax Online chief joins PrintEx Forum panel

Van Niekerk has led the editorial development of Fairfax Media’s online mastheads, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age for the past seven years. These websites are two of the most successful in the world, jointly attracting around nine million global visitors each month.

Following the recent launch of brisbanetimes.com.au – one of the world's first paperless news sites – van Niekerk will offer his experiences and viewpoints into unravelling the controversial issues surrounding the digital evolution at The PrintEx Forum session, Digital DilemmasMaking sense of the array of impacts, technologies and issues caused by living in, and supplying to, a digital world, on Friday, May 25.

Profile Marketing managing director, David Holton, RMIT Semantic Web Researcher, Gus Gollings and RMIT Professor of Law, Margaret Jackson, will join van Nierkerk, with Allan Robinson, general manager, Letters, Australia Post in providing the keynote presentation for the session.  

The PrintEx Forums also feature a session entitled Control Your FutureInsights and strategies for survival and success in an increasingly complex print industry environment, on Thursday, May 24.  Headlining this session is Gordon Towell, Group chief executive, Geon Group who will address the impacts and challenges of globalisation.

A panel of experts including Andrew Cester, managing director – Manufacturing, Whirlwind Print; Mark Reid, managing director, SEP Sprint; and Gus Balbontin, planning manager, Lonely Planet, will bring their expertise to the table before the issue is thrown open for audience participation and questions. 

The PrintEx Forums sessions are free of charge and will commence at 11am, running for approximately 90 minutes. Early arrival is recommended as seats are limited and will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

The Forums will take place on-site at PrintEx07 in the Hospitality Lounge, located upstairs in Hall 5 of the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.
