Fairfax tops PANPA winners list

Fairfax takes out the top honour in the 2014 PANPA Awards with its North Richmond site named print centre of the year at the recent gala event.

The facility prints much of the publisher’s NSW titles including The Sydney Moring Herald and the national Australian Financial Review, and was recently beefed-up with new equipment and some from the Chullora plant, which closed in May.

Australian newspapers dominated the awards, winning all but two categories. The West Australian was the best double width metro title, printed from WAN’s Osborne Park site, with the Sunshine Coast Daily taking out the regional award.

Single width winners were The Geraldton Guardian and the Bairnsdale Advertiser for regional and community titles, while the Northern Daily Leader and News Corp were honoured for supplements and environmental awareness campaigns respectively.

Other awards were won by international entrants from New Zealand and Hong Kong. The awards were sponsored by paper manufacturer Norske Skog.

The Newspaper Works chief executive Mark Hollands says: “We have some of the best newspapers in the world and the Newspaper of the Year awards continue to attract great support despite the increasing commercial pressures on the industry.”
