Flint Group is adding more sustainable metallics, available in silver and two shades of gold, to its UV LED portfolio of EkoCure inks, varnishes and adhesives. Flint says the EkoCure Metallics, when used with UV LED presses, are more environmentally friendly, and increase productivity and uptime. Flints says they have run the inks commercially at rapid-fire speeds of 750fpm.

The EkoCure range of UV flexo and screen inks are said to be the first narrow web printing inks developed for use in combination printing, and are made using selected raw materials that match the narrow and targeted wavelength area typical for UV LED lamp output. As UV LED lamps are ozone and mercury free and use less energy than conventional presses, the presses and inks in tandem are said to provide environmental and economical benefits. Niklas Olsson, global brand manager of Flint Group, says, “The UV Flexo ink series we have developed is based on bio-renewable resin technology as an added effort to address sustainability. “Bio-renewable resins for UV products will increase in use in the future.” The EkoCure Metallics are available as one part press ready inks, and are provided in Silver, 871 Gold and 875 Gold. Flint says mixing formulas for the other base shades can be provided upon request. The EkoCure products are available in a range of UV flexo inks, from all base colours in the Pantone base range as well as UV rotary screen whites designed for combination printing. In the Asia Pacific the range is distributed in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam. In Australia the company has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
