The new entity, to be known as “Superfine in Focus”, will replace the original Superfine business based in Arncliffe to be headed up by Superfine owner Ken Mapledoram as CEO, while David Fuller, CEO of Focus Press will become a director of the venture.
Fuller told Australian Printer the agreement stemmed from talks with Superfine on increasing its environmental credentials and grew into an operation, which combines synergies from both companies.
He says, “We were looking to invest in growth and Superfine is an established 50 year old company with a customer base complimentary to Focus’ as well as 40 inch perfecting capabilities and a strategically placed site in Sydney.
“Focus can bring a lot to Superfine, not only additional print and finishing capabilities, but also our sustainability knowledge. A lot of companies are trying to become more environmentally friendly because that is what the market is asking for and we will make it happen in a hurry at Superfine in Focus.”
Focus Press will bring a number of new services to the Arncliffe facility including direct marketing, poly-wrapping, digital printing, inkjet personalisation, die cutting and gluing as well as 40 inch and half printing capabilities.
On the environmental front, Superfine In Focus is expected to achieve zero waste, increase productivity and join the NSW Government’s Sustainable Advantage programme within 300 days.
Fuller has been on the expansion trail for several years with Focus Press purchasing the business and assets of insolvent Sydney printer Greenloch Print Essentials in 2009, which followed the acquisition of Fast Proof Press in 2008.
Focus Press will continue to operate its two facilities in Strathfield and Matraville separately from the joint venture.
