The final step in becoming carbon neutral for the company is to purchase carbon credits through Carbon Trade Exchange (CTX).
Louise Pastro, sustainability manager, Focus Press says, “With CTX, we are able to select the projects we want our carbon credit purchases to go towards. At the moment, Focus Press contributes to three projects: a hydro project in China, the capture and utilisation of landfill gas in the USA, and a wind power project in India.
To help it become carbon neutral, the company had to find a partner that had a demonstrated record and good reputation. Pastro says “Ultimately, our suppliers have an impact on the profile of our business, so it’s important for us to find someone we can trust. We were also looking for a provider that was reliable, transparent and compliant by Australian government standards.”
The company started its sustainability journey ten years ago. Pastro says, “Energy efficiency is an important part of our business, so we adopted various practices to improve our consumption of energy. For example, we now collect heat that comes from our printing process in a way that it reduces the need for heating in winter. We have also significantly reduced our waste to landfill and increased our recycling.”
Alice Cahill, business partnership manager, Office of Environment and Heritage says “It is fantastic to see Focus Press, one of our two Sustainability Advantage Gold partners, take the next step in terms of their sustainability and decide to go carbon neutral. Focus Press is a great example of a company going that extra mile in terms of their commitment to making a difference for the environment.”
Focus Press is a partner of Sustainability Advantage, a program run by the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW to encourage and assist organisations to manage their environmental strategies, risk and compliance, use resources more efficiency and measure and manage their carbon footprint.
