Panelists at the event, which was held at Rydges Parramatta, included HLB Mann Judd’s insolvency expert Stephen Michell and business services maestro Tony Kabrovski, who offered tips on how printers can avoid financial pitfalls during tough times.

Michell said financial prospects for print remained downbeat. “In the next five years, the print industry will only see a 1.4% growth.”

The panel also included Mark Wilton from DES and Lindsay Yates Group managing director Paul Richardson, who offered their perspectives.

Richardson gave insight into how Lindsay Yates has implemented lean manufacturing techniques, while Wilton touched on the importance of service levels from vendors.

The night, which was chaired by former ProPrint editor Steve Crowe, included an open forum where delegates discussed the industry’s problems.

Other topics under discussion included young people in print, technological advancements and competition from print managers.

Delegates included the likes of CPI, Fuji Xerox, Prografica and SOS Print & Media.

Prografica managing director Kerim El Gabaili said printers needed to be proactive, stating that those who did not embrace change were “picking a fight and complaining about black eye”.
