Garment printing big news at Fespa

As part of Fespa 2013, which will take place in London June 21-25, Fespa will host the Pilot’s Briefing Zone, where delegates can attend free presentations and demonstrations as well as hands-on interactive workshop sessions at the event,

Each day, the Pilot’s Briefing Zone will include seminar sessions hosted by Fespa regular Charlie Taublieb along with Dane Clement from Great Dane Graphics, USA and other global garment leaders. The ‘Get Hands-on’ workshops will run daily, led by Taublieb and will get progressively more advanced throughout the week, looking at topics such as: discharge ink, designing for black shirts, turning full colour into one and two colours and getting the most out of your artwork.

Visitors will also get the chance to design and print their own t-shirts, one of the designs printed in the workshop sessions will be the Fespa 50th anniversary t-shirt, helping Fespa to celebrate 50 years in the industry. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will to go to the Events for Namuwongo charity as part of Fespa’s Profit for Purpose reinvestment programme.

Show days in the Pilot’s Briefing Zone will see industry leaders from the garment arena take to the stage to discuss the latest topics including developments in screen chemicals, advances in emulsions, innovative advances in textile printing equipment.

One topic of discussion is the screen printers’ panel debate on June 28, where Mark Gervais, Ningbo (China), Samir Sadikoglu, ETF (Turkey), Dick Thomas, Latitudes (USA) and John Lynch, Lynka (Poland) will come together to discuss what’s new and innovative in the industry, using their own companies as examples.

Duncan MacOwan, head of media and events for Fespa, says, “Year on year we strive to create an inspirational learning environment which is both educational as well as hands-on. Incorporating Charlie’s Corner with the garment conference this year enables visitors to get the most from their visit. The aim of the Pilot’s Briefing Zone is to inspire garment decorators, printers and apparel brands to create new business opportunities.

“Our packed programme and line-up includes some of the biggest names in the garment industry, providing delegates with valuable information as well as the chance to ask questions directly to industry experts.”

Fespa Fabric will also see the return of Fespa’s t-shirt competition Design a Tee, which aims to showcase the design capabilities and opportunities that garment print and decoration presents. The aim is for entrants to realise the design potential of this sector and to get their creative juices flowing. Budding designers can enter the competition until May 3 and Fespa will announce the winner on day four of the show.
