GASAA explores digital asset management

Entitled “DAM – saving time and money”, this information session will discuss ways to manage media assets such as images, layouts, presentations, video, audio and text.

The event will feature Ricky Patten of DataBasics, Michael Stoddart of Adobe Systems and Julian Pefanis of the University of Sydney Art History and Theory.

Julian Pefanis will present on how DAM Software, such as Canto Cumulus, is used by his department to deliver digital assets throughout the student community.

You’ll also get an understanding of Adobe’s approach to DAM. What is Adobe’s XMP…how does it fit into the rich tapestry of DAM and how is XMP integrated with popular DAM products? Michael Stoddart will give you a brief outline of Adobe’s Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) – a labelling technology that allows you to embed data about a file (metadata) into the file itself. XMP provides a common method for capturing, sharing & leveraging valuable metadata.

Our informative session will look at what is DAM, the importance of metadata (information about the file); digital rights issues; valuing assets and compliance with major metadata standards, e.g. IPTC, XMP, XML, AGLS/Dublin Core.

GASAA will hold this session at the RG Hotel on Capital Square – 431-439 Pitt St, Sydney (corner of Pitt Street and Campbell Street), with parking available at Capital Square Car Park or Goulburn St Parking. Flat evening rates apply. The cost for non-members is $20 pre-paid or at the door, with GASAA members getting in free. The evening will commence at 5.30pm and conclude at 7pm.
