GENR8 buys two JWEI finishing solutions from Smartech

GENR8 Printing is now home to two new JWEI finishing solutions, which the company purchased from Smartech Business Systems.

GENR8 Printing owner Yianni Moratidis told Sprinter he purchased the two digital cutters from Smartech as he wanted to speed up production and quicker turnaround times to clients.

As a long-standing business partner of GENR8’s, with their relationship spanning over many years, Smartech was a natural choice for Moratidis.

“Smartech was one of the first businesses I partnered with, so it was a natural transgression for me to get these digital cutters from them,” Moratidis said.

“When I saw them become the main distributor for JWEI in Australia, I thought I should give it a go – and I’m glad I did. I will tell any person to not write off Chinese-built machines anymore because their quality and engineering has improved immensely.

“The location at GENR8 where the cutters were supposed to go is also limited in size – our choices from JWEI fit the area perfectly.”

The deal started taking root at drupa 2024, where Moratidis and Smartech NSW sales manager and national product manager of sign and display Brett Wark spent a day together on the JWEI stand.

The machines on display included the two digital cutters Moratidis purchased, which allowed him to see the equipment in action and speak with the manufacturers and other resellers to help clarify his ultimate direction.

Moratidis mentioned the bigger bed is 1600mm by 3500mm and comes with the added bonus of auto tool bit change on the 1.8KW router. As for the smaller bed, it is 1300mm by 1100mm with auto feeder, in addition to having the same tool heads as its bigger brother.

Both units can handle sheets as small as SRA3 and up, and have the added benefit of handling media up to 30mm thick.

“The bigger unit’s going to help streamline any manual process of changing bits or tooling. And having two units mean I can have redundancy with the second one if anything happens with a tool on the larger one. Plus, it can be used for small format,” Moratidis said.

“With what the machine offered and the functionality, the investment was a no brainer for me,” Moratidis said.

Smartech NSW sign and display business development manager Timothy Hawes identified some of the key features of the machine, including its:

  • High-speed precision cutting with automatic tool recognition
  • Versatile material handling, from foam board and acrylic to vinyl and corrugated cardboard
  • Modular tool heads for creasing, routing, and kiss-cutting
  • User-friendly interface with integrated workflow software.

“The equipment will boost GENR8’s production capabilities. With quicker turnaround times, less manual labour, and better cutting accuracy, they’ll be able to handle more complex jobs and meet tight deadlines confidently. The automation will also free up their team to focus on creative and strategic tasks, ultimately increasing growth and customer satisfaction,” Hawes said.

Wark said the sale of the two JWEI machines to GENR8 reinforces its position as a leading provider of advanced finishing solutions in the region and highlights the growing demand for automation and precision in the signage and display industry.

“It also reflects our commitment to supporting our customers’ growth with scalable, high-performance equipment,” he said.

“GENR8 is a returning customer. Over the past few years, it has invested in several pieces of equipment from Smartech, including a HP Stitch S500, a Transmatic Calender unit, laminators, banding machines, and others. Their continued trust in our solutions speaks volumes about the strength of our relationship and the reliability of our technology and our service capabilities.”
