The Brisbane site is the biggest of the three, it was formed primarily from a merger of two of the biggest sheetfed printers in the area in 2007, the old Penfold Buscombe business with Scanlon Print, owned buy Tony Scanlon.

When Geon merged the two companies they relocated into a new unit, owned co-incidentally by members of the Scanlon family.

The other sites are in Cairns and Townsville.

The closure of Geon’s Queensland business comes four days after the Geon receivers, McGrath Nicol, said the refusal of paper merchants toi supply stock meant it had to ‘undertake an urgent appraisal of the business to consider cost reduction strategies which could involve plant closures and job losses.

The staff at Geon’s Queensland business shave been advised to claim their staff told to their entitlements through the  General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS).
