The obvious candidates are Blue Star, which has just been bought by the Selig brothers, IPMG where CEO Stephen Anstice has announced he will leave in July, and PMP, which has just appointed a NEW CEO Peter George.
Of these the smart money is on Blue Star – particularly as both men had a long career there before joining Geon – with the Seligs’ potentially offering them an equity position to tempt them from Geon. There are other options, which include buying into another B1 sheetfed printer.
Draper and Lykissas tendered their resignations on Tuesday afternoon, and both were shown the door at Geon effective immediately, Draper spoke to Australian Printer on the situation and what the future holds for the two.
Draper says, “The future is bright and we are both looking forward to 2013 – we have a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting group within the industry. We will both be in executive management roles.”
He says, “On Tuesday afternoon I resigned as national general manager at Geon and Kim resigned as head of sales for NSW and ACT the same afternoon. We both gave notice as per our employment contracts – Whilst also being transparent and honest of our intention to stay within the industry. Understandably Geon placed Kim and I on gardening leave – effective immediately.”
Draper says, “It is important for me to communicate and make it clear that I enjoyed my 18 months at Geon. My decision to exit was not made easily – the industry is full of great people and Geon is no exception.”
He says, “Like everyone in these uncertain times, I needed to think of my family, my personal career and my business values. I am pleased to say these values are much aligned in my new opportunity.”
“I would like to personally thank Graham Morgan and importantly wish the Geon staff all the very best in the future and safe and merry Christmas”, Draper concludes.
