Goanna Print set to close unless offer ‘comes out of the blue’

The Canberra-based company entered voluntary administration with Frank Lo Pilato from RSM Bird Cameron Partners last month.

The business had continued trading, as managing director Phil Abbott told ProPrint he was “quietly confident” the administrators would be able to sell the business as a going concern.

That outcome looks increasingly unlikely as administrators informed Abbott that Goanna would cease trading on 15 November.

Lo Pilato told ProPrint the company was essentially facing liquidation, as a deal has been done to sell the equipment to an auctioneer.

“We haven’t been able to find a buyer for the business as a going concern,” he said.

Abbott would not comment to ProPrint, but is understood to be hopeful that a buyer will still be found for the business.

Lo Pilato said that, while that is a possibility, it’s unlikely.

“We haven’t got any other offers, unless someone comes out of the blue,” he said.

“We’ve given notice to the employer that the business will cease trading on that date.”

Lo Pilato had previously told ProPrint that the company’s administration was due to “cashflow problems”.

Goanna Print was established in 1983, and grew rapidly into one of Canberra’s foremost printers after acquiring clients such as the National Gallery of Australia and the Australian War Memorial.

The company has won a series of awards over the years, including a gold medal at the international Sappi Printer of the Year awards in 2003 and a certificate of merit at the 1999 Printing Industry of America “Benjamin Franklin” awards.
