At the beginning of August 2011, Hannanprint’s parent company IPMG gave the go-ahead for a $90m investment programme that would see a modern printing centre built in Warwick Farm, southwest of Sydney.
By the start of 2013, an innovative technology concept will have been realised for the new location that is expected to bring a marked improvement in the company’s competitiveness.
To be better prepared for future production peaks, a 96-page press will be installed in Warwick Farm in July this year. Three further presses – two 48-page and one 32-page – will also be relocated from the previous facility in Alexandria.
In the postpress sector, Hannanprint will be installing Ferag’s UniDrum 440, a gatherer-stitcher that will enable the company to move into a new performance class and profit from an extremely high level of automation.
Automatic PreTronic CV format presetting means its will be possible to carry out a complete job change within a few minutes. Thanks to the rotary concept, the UniDrum achieves speeds up to 32,000 copies an hour across a wide spectrum of formats and grammages.
The gatherer-stitcher is equipped with a total of six hoppers. The separate sheets are merged in the drum, stitched, and then given a three-side trim in the SNT-50 trimming drum.
Three supplements can be inserted into the finished product via EasySert. Finally, two compensating stackers and a palletizing system from Segbert will ready the print products for distribution.
Installation will be complete and production is ex[pected to start by June.
