Today is ProPrint’s last day before we pack away the pen and pick up the surfboard, head to the beach and the fire up the barbie for the annual holiday.
We are all hoping that 2015 proves a little less volatile than this year, bookended as it was by the big print company collapses of Focus and Group Momentum at the start of the year, and then OnDemand and Sumo at the end.
Print is a challenging business to be in, of that there is no doubt, with some markets struggling to grow, others wiped out, think directories, airline tickets and even Christmas cards, but new opportunities are emerging, and where printers can show that print engages and delivers it clearly wins, the booming catalogues sector are a prime example, along with outdoor print.
The print businesses that are winning are those that are recognising and meeting the changing demands of the market, those that are coming up with new ways for their customers to reach their markets, those that are integrating print with digital communication, those that are looking to work with their customers to create marketing solutions.
During the holiday period it is important of course take plenty of time with the family, to rest and recharge, but also to take time to reflect, all the studies show that those who take themselves out of the day-to-day demands to spend time thinking are those more likely to move forward.
Anyone who has been to the house of the world’s greatest inventor Thomas Edison, in Fort Myers, Florida will have noted the pier that runs from his garden into the river. Every day Edison, with his multiple projects on the go and incessant demands from industrialists, would go fishing for two hours off the end of his pier, with a not-to-be-disturbed-under-any-circumstances sign. Except it turned out he wasn’t fishing at all, his line never had a hook or bait, it was his thinking time
Enjoy your holidays, thanks for your support, ProPrint looks forward to working with you all again in the new year.
