Heidelberg launches four new digital printers

Heidelberg is bringing four new digital printers to the market to replace old models and venture into the entry level digital game. The new Linoprint CV and Linoprint CP colour digital printers will replace the Linoprint C751 and C901 models, and says Heidelberg come with improved flexibility and productivity in short, personalised and hybrid runs. Heidelberg hopes to leverage its profile in the offset world in supplying integrated digital and offset applications, with a new Prinect Digital Frontend (DFE) capable of connecting a printshop’s overall production workflow.

Dan Maurer, vice president of digital print and postpress product management for Heidelberg US, says, “Both the Linoprint CV and Linoprint CP offer greater productivity, near-offset quality, and substrate flexibility to complex graphics work and commercial printing. “Heidelberg’s colour management, along with improved print quality stability and tight registration, enables these new engines to achieve true hybrid job production matching a shop’s offset presses. “The expanded substrate range, ability to accommodate format sizes up to 13 x 27.5 inches, with the Linoprint CV’s five colour capability, offer commercial printers marketable applications not previously available in this price class.” The Linoprint CV, targeted to customers that already have digital capacity and want to grow both volume and application flexibility, has a printing speed of 90ppm across its substrate range. In addition to printing with the four primary colours, the CV also offers either a high-opacity white or high-gloss coating as an exchangeable fifth colour. Heidelberg says registration accuracy enables multi-pass applications featuring raised printing and white effects for short-run labels or packaging.

Users can choose from a variety of substrates ranging from structured papers and coated media to coloured paper and synthetic films up to 14-point board. Toner with a low melting point means the machine can print on heat sensitive plastics. With support for paper formats up to 13 x 27.5 inches users can produce three-page folding brochures or posters up to 27.5 inches in a single operation. Multiple paper magazines can be refilled on the fly to keep makeready times short. The Linoprint CP produces advertising and presentation materials at a printing speed of 130 pages per minute, as well as personalised print products, bound books and brochures. The system features a heavy-duty modular design, with separate imaging and fusing units, and can yield monthly print volumes of more than one million images. Heidelberg says the CP is suited to high or low print volumes. Inline finishing solutions include bookletmaking and inline UV coating, as well as high-capacity stacking, perforating, folding and adhesive binding The Linoprint CP also has a low toner melting point, which enables it to process a range of materials including structured papers and plastics. The system can accommodate up to 18-point board stock, useful for short-run packaging and packaging proofs.

Both the Linoprint CV and Linoprint CV will be available with Heidelberg’s Prinect Digital Front End, or with EFI’s Fiery front end, depending on the production workflow already in place. For small commercial, quick, and in-plant printers the company has also developed the entry level Linoprint CM high volume black-and-white machine to supplement colour production, and the Linoprint CE, which it says will enable smaller commercial shops, quick printers and in-plant operations to transition to an upgraded platform at lower volumes and cost with no loss of quality. Release dates for Australia are still to come.
