Canberra outfit Impress Printers says it is enjoying the sustainability and cost benefits of its new Presstek Dimension Excel 425 computer to plate system, installed by Onyx Solutions.

The distributor says the Dimension Excel uses daylight-safe, chemistry free thermal imaging technology – cutting out chemistry costs and the time to clean the processor as well as eliminating the need for a darkroom. Onyx adds that the Anthem Pro plates require a simple rinse with water to be ready for printing, and the system produces a strong black image, making it easy to pick up mistakes. Impress owner Terry Ward says the new system, which replaces an older model from a rival brand, is a breath of fresh air. He tells Australian Printer, “Now we do not have to discard chemistry at all; it is a green machine. It is nice to be green and do your bit to help out. Hopefully clients will take notice of that. “As a double bonus we are saving a lot on chemicals. The plate costs are more than comparable, they are a lot cheaper when you take the chemical side out. Also you do not have to worry about a dark room – there is always that worry about light, you have to keep your plates under wraps. Now we can see out the window – it is all bright and sparkly.” Impress produces a wide range of promotional material including point of sale, corporate brochures, direct mail, stationery, flyers, specialty printing, labels and packaging at its Fyshwick site in the ACT. Ward says service is all-important to Impress, and was the company’s main reason for going with Canberra-based Onyx Solutions for the installation. He says, “The main thing I would emphasise is the service here, we work with Michael Malone and Maria Gagetti with Onyx, and they are both prepared to chomp in and help at any time. “Onyx have local technicians, whereas our previous brand had to get someone down from Sydney and it was costing $1,000 every time you had a hiccup just to get a technician out – that was before they even started working on the machine. Service is important for us, especially when you are out in the bush.”
