Queensland family business InHouse Print and Design has purchased a Ricoh Pro C7110 and a Pro C9110 to supplement the 40 per cent sales growth it has experienced since last year. The 16-year-old family business, which started at owner Bob Karlsson’s house and operated there for five years, offers print services include digital, wide format, signage, as well as design.
Speaking with Australian Printer, Karlsson says the business needed to stay competitive and continue on its growing streak so it was essential to invest in the new machines, which it did at the recent PrintEx. Karlsson says, “Things are pretty tough at the moment so to stay competitive we invested in the machines from Ricoh, whom we have a great relationship with. “They have been a great partner, and their machines have the versatility and reliability that we could not turn away from.” He says the growth in the business is mainly generated by the perfect bound books and wide format, which he predicts will continue on the upward trajectory. Karlsson says, “For us sales have gone up by 40 per cent compared to last year, and that is mostly because of the perfect bound books, which has taken off, and also wide format. “The wide format section has been on a continuous growth and we expect this section of the business to grow further, and we also expect the perfect bound books section to continue growing.” Last year, InHouse Print and Design announced its intentions to join forces with Queensland Posters to become a powerful wide format force; however, Karlsson says that did not happen.
The two companies had enjoyed sharing jobs for years and the decision to join forces was to offer their customers a wide range of printed products under the one roof, and also manage colour consistency and the overall look of the print. However, after a few months of trials the partnership did not work. He says, “It didn’t go through. We had a trial period together but then it was decided that we go our own way.” The family business operates with 16 people including Karlsson, his wife, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. “So it is still very much a family business,” he says. Raj Chandiok, national sales manager – production print of Ricoh Australia says the necessity to enhance value and increase client satisfaction remains the main goal of every business, and the Ricoh Pro C9100 series provides clients with new and improved profitable revenue streams. He says the Pro C9110 has a high productivity feature with print speeds of up to 130ppm based upon A4, and supports media up to 400gsm in both simplex and duplex. He says the Pro C7110’s oversized printing capabilities, using either the bypass tray or the vacuum-feed large capacity tray, will print on 700mm up to 360 gsm. The C7110 can perform saddle stitching, square folds, full bleed booklets on coated or uncoated media up to 300 gsm.
