Jayd Kiely named Qld’s LIA Graduate of the Year

The Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA) has named APN Print’s Jayd Kiely as the winner of the Heidelberg Graduate of the Year Award for Queensland during a dinner at Brisbane’s 66 on Ernest Restaurant.

The eight nominees – Evan Rashleigh from Hally Labels, Brianna Merrett from Print Approach, Inprint’s Christopher Moore, Nathan Alvers, and Shaun Alcorn, Melinda Williams from Platypus Graphics and CPX Printing’s Brendan Moore were called on stage for the awards ceremony.

Kiely was handed a trophy and will now go in the running to win a $15,000 education grant. Brendan Moore from CPX Printing was named runner up.

Former international cricketer, Gary Cosier played MC for the night, entertaining the crowd of 130 people with tales of his time in the Australian cricket sides of the 70s and 80s.

Tackling the growing issue of youth depression, Cosier offered some gems of advice to the graduates on how to achieve a healthy work/life balance.

Commenting on the night Australia Industry Group’s Mel Ireland says, “The LIA appreciates the co-operation of all the sponsors, training organisations and employers. All candidates represented with distinction and it was a great reflection of the talent in our industry.”

The Graduate of the Year Award is the longest running continuous award of the Institute, dating back to 1972. The nominees are handpicked by TAFE teaching staff for their outstanding performance during their studies and the winner is selected by a panel of LIA members.
