At last month’s Label Expo in Belgium, Jet Technologies signed the distribution deal for Germany-based E&L, which manufactures inline quality inspection for web presses.
Jet managing director Jack Malki told ProPrint that with existing inspection systems, any out-of-spec sheets had to be removed while the job was on press, increasing downtime and tying up the press operator.
He explained that the beauty of the new E&L gear was that it relocated any ‘tagging or flagging’ of bad sheets from the press to the rewind unit.
“You are talking about presses that cost $1m to $5m and operators with eight to 10 printing decks: embossing, die cutting – it is quite a job to run this type of press.
“So if they have to worry about stopping and tagging, it is too much. It slows down productivity.”
Malki said the rewinder was “clearly” the better place for this inefficiency.
