Currently in the role of marketing services manager, and digital finishing manager, with equipment, consumables and paper supplier CPI, Kerney began his career in print selling Compugraphic typesetters in 1981, and has worked in a variety of sales focused roles since then for CPI and its predecessors including Sicpa and Collie Cooke.
Kerney says, "My lasting impression of the printing business is that of an enormously exciting industry. Its development in technology and business has been amazingly rapid. I have been privileged to play a part in the development of the Australian print industry, and to witness the ability of printers to adapt and change."
Angela Harper will take over Kerney's role in marketing co-ordination at CPI, while Marc Schmitz will assume his responsibilities in digital finishing equipment.
Kerney himself plans to spend a lot more time tinkling the ivories, he is a fairly accomplished pianist, and becoming involved in other musical projects. He will be remaining in Melbourne, where he arrived as a ten pound pom in 1969.
