Rhys Daube, managing director of Printing Supplies and Machinery, told Australian Printer that he is looking forward to making more contacts in the lucky country. He says, “Under the terms of the agreement, we will basically be supplying technical service and back up for all Australian clients. As for sales, we are looking forward to linking up with an Australian company for that side of the business. We are working through that at the moment so I can’t say too much right now.”
He believes Australian clients will see similarities with Printing Supplies & Machinery and Aussie companies. In New Zealand, his team enjoys a solid reputation for hard work and reliability. He says, “We have a strong business ethos and we want to translate that into steady business in Australia. We aren’t looking to do anything rash or hasty. We see it being about maintaining decent working relationships with our clients. We have already been dealing with quite a few Sakurai customers in Australia, and look forward to the new opportunities this will bring.
The New Zealand market has not enjoyed the resilience that the Australians have seen in their economy. Daube adds, “It has been quite difficult to trade here since 2008 but we remain positive. We can see some green shoots. While a lot of companies have disappeared and there is still consolidation happening, there is still a fair amount of printing going on.”
