Konica Minolta goes heavy duty

The machine is designed to deal with heavy-duty production environments. It can cope with average monthly volumes of 300,000 – 500,000 A4 sheets and duty cycles of up to 1.5 million A4 sheets a month. Air-assisted feeding rollers in each tray and a double-feed detection mechanism are fitted. Remote Diagnostic software and customer replacement units (CRU) will also enhance its uptime performance.

The device, which is built around solid steel, comes with a raft of finishing features that Konica Minolta is excited aboutl. It has the ability to handle paper up to 300 gsm simplex and 244gsm duplex. The fold-finishing unit comes with six-way folding (half, gate, tri-, Z-letter and double parallel fold). It also comes with a 50-sheet booklet maker and automatic trimming facility for brochures with up to 200 images. The post inserter allows pre-printed colour covers and regular insert sheets to be integrated into booklets online.

The bizhub PRO 1050 also offers enormous paper handling (9000) and output (10,000) capacities. Another feature, the so-called Mix-Plex function, enables simplex and duplex sheets to be printed in a single job with the operator able to switch cassettes on the fly.

The printer uses Konica Minolta’s Polymerized Toner. The company says the particles are smaller and smoother than conventional toner so it produces crisper, cleaner images but requires less toner to do so.

But drupa was not only an opportunity for Konica Minolta to show its high-speed output. The company also demonstrated the impositioning and print job processing software Œjtman CRD/Business‚. Used together with Konica Minolta‚s output systems, the optional Œjtweb‚ add-on creates integrated digital printing solutions that offer complete web printing functionality.

Konica Minolta says the combination of Œjtman CRD/Business‚ and its digital printing systems provides sophisticated digital printing technology for printing agencies, print shops, and CRDs. This intelligent solution for professional, application-independent printing especially addresses the requirements of print service providers and professional printers. With the optional jtweb upgrade this functionality is now extended into a complete solution for digital printing via the Web. It enables any print provider to offer his services on the Internet.

The company also displayed the colour output of its production level 8050/CF 5001 press and its high speed 7085 / Di850 product for commercial print for pay, copy shops or CRDs.
