The students created original pieces with a ‘doggie’ twist, drawing their inspiration from great painters and movements of our time, with adaptations of the Bahaus, Art Deco and graffiti art movements alongside famous paintings like Picasso’s Weeping Woman, Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and the surrealist painting by Rene Magritte The Son of Mon.
Catherine Doggett, national marketing manager, KW Doggett Fine Paper says, “Every year I think we can’t possible fine another dog theme. But every year the students blow us away with original and creative ideas. They always give us the unexpected and we’re really proud of this year’s result.”
The student project starts each year in March and ends in November, it aims to collaborate with the students to develop their skills on a live commercial brief. A mentor is assigned to develop the project, along with a few key students to oversee the body of work. Concepts are presented to KW Doggett Fine Paper and once approved, the project kicks off.
Carina Lee, part of the student project management team, says, “My experience working on the KWD 2013 calendar was like a ‘freelancing internship’. It’s not often a student gets a chance to do all this, be mentored within the industry by a client, work with a varied team of mutually respecting peers and produce a printed artefact that will be sent around Australia.
Lee “I am proud of what our team has produced for the 2013 calendar and especially thankful for being given the opportunity to learn and create.”
