Fowler established Masterbind with Paul Cohen in 1981 in North Sydney. The business originally focused on specialised document presentation concepts through the 1980s and evolved into an equipment and supply business in the 1990s.

Fowler expanded the utilisation of wire binding concepts into new document areas in Australia for many years. He retired in 2005 when the business was purchased by the German Renz group that his company had represented for some time. Renz Australia is now managed by Fowler’s son Rod Fowler.
