Pillar has been the Media Super administrator for the past eight years, and Media Super says it has generally done a good job. However the industry super fund believes better technology available through Mercer will result in improved services for both members and employers.
Peter Cleary, NSW client relations manager with Media Super says, “Mercer will provide benefits in statement preparation and delivery, payments, member accounts, employer contributions and the call centre response.”
The call centre will remain in Australia, although there will be a change of location from Wollongong to Melbourne.
Media Super has confirmed that Mercer will be primarily be handling administrative functions. They will not be managing the investments of the $3bn Media Super fund, which it operated on behalf of its 118,000 members, with the 67,000 in the print industry forming the largest sector. Other professions in the fund include journalists and entertainers.
The Fund’s industry fund status, and such features as investment and competitive fees and insurance offerings will not be changing. The current Board of Media Super under the chairmanship of Gerard Noonan, will also remain as is.
