New equipment on display included a high speed four-colour digital press that the company says is equally adept at printing on paper and plastic substrates, a new spot UV coating using inkjet technology, and allow cost four in one digital press – including printing, laminating, creasing and cutting unit aimed specifically at the booming photobooks market.

The Meteor DP 60 Pro is a multisubstrate paper and plastic printing press, and is the flagship model in the DP 60 series. Designed for high volume printing, the DP 60 Pro has the capability to produce up to 3,900 A4/Letter size sheets, and up to 32,000 ISO CR80 PVC plastic cards hourly, all in four colors and with full variable data. It can accommodate sizes up to 330mm x 487mm

MGI is making much of what it says is the most versatile digital press in the industry, printing papers from 70 to 350 gsm including matte and glossy papers, plastics from 100 to 400 _ thickness (up to 16 mil) such as PVC, polycarbonate, polyester, Teslin, vinyl, PET, and many others. All substrates can be printed in high quality resolutions of up to 2,400dpi x 200lpi with variable line screen capabilities.

MGI used drupa as the world premiere of its new JetVarnish Inkjet Spot UV Coater. The JetVarnish aims at high speed. and up to ISO B3+ format applications, with an integrated infrared dryer to enable turnkey.

Finally MGI launched the Meteor DP20 one hour photo book solution. Amed specifically at photo book production, the Meteor DP20 will print, laminate, crease and cut. Photos can be printed in resolutions up to 1,800dpi, on sheet sizes up to 270mm x 431.8mm with an output of 20 pages/minute.

MGI says the inline unit allows seamless production and turnaround of photo products in as little as one hour.
