New editor at ProPrint

Kiernan (pictured), an Australian, spent five years at Haymarket’s print division in the UK, first on PrintWeek magazine and website then as deputy editor of Printing World and PrintBuyer. He has also been a regular contributor to ProPrint and most recently served as managing editor of Broadcast magazine.

His achievements include working on trade show daily newspapers such as the drupa Report Daily at drupa and the Ipex Daily at Ipex.

Haymarket Media Australia managing director Jeremy Vaughan said the high-profile ProPrint post needed someone of Kiernan’s abilities and credentials to take the publication to its next stage of evolution.

“His five years at Haymarket across interactive, weekly and monthly magazines has given him a solid grounding and, most of all, he’s passionate about the print industry,” Vaughan said.

“His arrival at the end of the year is perfect timing as we plan the next range of exciting initiatives and brand extensions across the magazine and website to maximise our position as leaders in our field.”

Vaughan also praised the contribution of Crowe, who has decided to explore new ventures.

“Steve has tirelessly steered the magazine and, more recently, the website, into the number 1 voice of the market, an achievement of which he should be very proud,” Vaughan said.

“He was instrumental in the new-look magazine and the launch of the website in time for drupa last year, a great accomplishment given the competition and economic climate.

“He will be missed by those who had the privilege to work with him as editor and I’d like to wish him the best in his new ventures.”

Luckily for ProPrint and its readers, Crowe will remain as a regular contributor and is closely involved in the transition to the new editor, Vaughan said.

Meanwhile, Kiernan said he is “delighted” to be taking over as editor.

“I’ve been a big admirer of the magazine and website and hold Steve Crowe in high regard,” Kiernan said. “When the opportunity arose to take the helm, I jumped at the chance.

“In today’s challenging times, I genuinely believe that staying up to date with vital industry information, delivered in the most accessible format – both in print and online – can make a huge difference to a printing company’s success.”

Crowe said a highlight of his time on the magazine was witnessing the transformation of the printing and publishing industries from a traditional craft into a dynamic, digital process.

“No other industry has had to make such dramatic changes in its structure and processes,” Crowe said.

“It’s been a challenge and a pleasure editing ProPrint for all those years.

“But I’ve decided that it’s time to pursue other interests and opportunities, while staying in touch with the industry and ProPrint.

“I’ve no doubt ProPrint will be in very good hands at Haymarket Media and will further grow its reputation as the leading print journal in the region.”
