New printer-cutter combines speed with creativity: Roland DG

More sales may be in the offing with the Soljet Pro4 XR-640 also generating “many other solid leads”, said marketing communications manager Anthony McCausland.

“It’s the fastest printer-cutter we’ve ever released,” he told ProPrint.

The XR-640 is 1625mm (64 inches) wide and can print up to 49.1 sqm per hour.

McCausland said some standalone printers might be able to match or even exceed that speed, but none could also cut.

The machine comes with an “innovative new dual printhead design”, seven- and eight-colour configurations and new Eco-Sol Max2 inkset with nine colours, according to Roland DG.

The colours are CMYK plus light cyan, light magenta, white, metallic silver and a new light black.

“The XR-640 fires droplets of seven different sizes for exceptionally smooth gradations and flawless solid colours,” according to the manufacturer.

“The integrated contour cutting produces graphics of any shape in one seamless workflow and also offers perforations or creasing.”

The nickel-free eco-solvent ink is designed for popular applications like banners, signage, decals and labels, and offers “outstanding long-term outdoor durability, scratch and chemical resistance, broad media support and a wide gamut”, according to Roland DG.

Sales director John Wall said the XR-640 combined volume production with the ability to produce high-end effects and finishes.

The white, metallic silver and light black options would also allow printers to explore “a range of profitable new applications and markets”, he added.

To celebrate the launch, Roland DG is giving away a Ford XR6 ute or sedan to anyone who buys an XR-640 before the end of PacPrint (7 June 2013).
