News Ltd is continuing to cut back its newspaper printing operations, announcing that its Molendinar site on the Gold Coast is set to close. The $40m site was only opened a decade ago, and at the time was touted as a state-of-the-art newspaper printing facility.
It prints the Gold Coast Bulletin, sections of the weekend metro titles. And News has also tried to print semi-commercial work there as well. The number of job losses is not yet known, but some of the 60 staff are likely to relocate to Brisbane. The destination of the plant’s KBA press is also not yet known but is also likely to be the News site in the Brisbane suburb of Murrarie.
