The Sydney-based printer took its Capabilities book up against thousands of entries on the world stage at one of the most prestigious international print competitions, and came home with three best of category (Benny) awards.
The Capabilities book was awarded for its entries in the Hi-Fidelity Printing, Print/Graphic Arts Self-Promotion and the Special Innovation Awards – Printing categories.
Garth Hackett, sales and marketing director at Offset Alpine told Australian Printer that the successful results achieved in the state and national awards provided the motivation to enter international competition.
He says, “We have had some success in the American awards before but have never received a Benny. When we found out we had won, I couldn’t believe it was for all three categories we had entered. The result was justification for the investment and effort our team of staff and suppliers put into the book.”
More than 2500 entries were submitted for the June 2011 judging of the Premier Print Awards, with judges honouring a total of 875 pieces with one of three awards-106 Best of Category awards, 200 Awards of Recognition, and 569 Certificates of Merit.
Hackett continues, “A lot of the techniques and effects in the book hadn’t been done before, so the combined R&D and production of the book took about 18 months. It’s great to see all the work we put in recognised internationally.
“I also think the win is good for the Australian print industry as a whole, as it shows that here in the southern hemisphere we can produce internationally acclaimed printed products.”
