Sydney outfit On Time Print says investing in a Fuji Xerox Versant 2100 means it can now keep jobs in-house, increase profit and cope with what looks to be a busy year ahead. Located in Sydney’s northern suburbs the company a wide range of printers and finishing equipment, and its services include colour print, digital document production, posters, banners and signs, plan printing, mailbox rental services as well as design and typesetting. Speaking with Australian Printer, Brad Jaffray owner of On Time Print, says: “It has been busy and it looks like it will get even busier. The new Versant 2100 has been on my mind for a while and to be honest we need it to cope with all the work we are getting.
“We needed to upgrade the J75 press as we print a lot on heavy media, and the Versant will be able to do that at a fast rate, which is again something that we needed.” He says the business has been on the growing trajectory since he purchased it and has doubled its sales in the last two years. Jaffray says, “In the last six months after we brought the Mutoh VJ 1624 we have increased sales in the wide format section of the business by more than 25 per cent and we expect that section to keep growing. “A lot of printers are getting into the wide format section at the moment but I have believed in it for a long time and we are seeing the benefits of that belief. “We also have a HP Designjet 500, which is 10 years old but works surprisingly well, and an Epson T5200, which we got with the Versant to supplement our wide format section.” Jaffray says the business operated as a Mail Box Etc, which the then owner broke away from, and then decided to sell three years ago. This presented him with the opportunity to purchase the store and run it his way. “I was in the right place at the right time and once I got the business, I worked by myself for one and a half years before hiring staff,” he says. “It was tough but I knew I could get through it.” On Time Print now operates with three full-time, which include Jaffray, and one part time staff. Jaffray says he is pursuing the wide format market as well as focusing on the other sections of the business to ensure a healthy growth. “We don’t expect the growth to slow down. We are busy in every section of the business and since the wide format is a booming area, we are now positioned well with our presses to supplement that section,” he says. “The only thing is that I need to train a staff member to print large format posters, as I am spending all day on the production floor printing pull-up banners.”
