Managing director Brian Murray (pictured) told ProPrint that the NexPress will take the company into new areas in photo reproduction.
“We want to print digital files onto paper,” said Murray. “We looked at all the various machines available, and decided that the NexPress was the best solution for us. The gloss from the NexPress is just so good, and we’ve had a long history with Kodak, and we’re pleased that this will carry on.”
Horsham Colour currently has no interest in moving into other digital print markets with the NexPress.
“We’re strictly in the photo market, and we’ll be able to develop other photo-like products with the NexPress. It will open the door for doing more of that kind of work and grow the business,” said Murray. “We have a very big base of customers in photography and we’ll stick to that area. We’re very excited about stepping outside our circle of safety but we’re confident that with the help and skill of Kodak and with what we know about the photo industry, we’ll be able to grow.”
Steve Peck, Kodak Australasia’s business manager for electrophotographic systems, claimed the press will provide Horsham with critical benefits “in two important areas”.
“Firstly, because of the proven fade resistance for photo applications like photobooks and keepsakes, and secondly, for image durability because of the superior nature of NexPress DryInks,” said Peck. “Additionally, if prints have an inline protection coat applied they gain yet an even higher level of image durability. And near-line glossing of photo products from the NexPress – which is not a laminate and so will not suffer from curl or bubbling – provides the ultimate mirror finish required for certain photo products too.
“At Kodak we are delighted to be working with Brian and his team at Horsham Colour to help with new digital opportunities within his well established professional photo lab business.”
The NexPress has already been installed and is in test mode.
“It arrived yesterday. The people from Kodak have been working through the night and we’re running test prints today,” said Murray. “It’s working out very well already.”
