Platypus took out all the awards in the packaging category with two gold, two silver and one bronze. Otrher notbale winners included QLM Labelmakers which took out gold, silver and bronze in the flexo award category. PMP Geon, Inprint, Cornerstone and Heaney’s Performers In Print all took multiple awards

Tom Lusch, managing director, Platypus Graphics says, “We are all pretty happy here at Platypus to be recognised once more, last year we won 11 gold and to go one step further this year is a testament of the hard work we do. It gets stressful at times around here so all the hard work is recognised and I’m pleased because of that.”

For the first time in 19 years the event was moved from November and held in spring, the presentation evening was led by well known industry identity and master of ceremonies Bruce Irwin.

Susan Heaney, president, Printing Industries says, “One of the reasons why we moved the date was to capitalise on the feelings which are synonymous with spring: a fresh start, blossoms, longer days and balmy nights, and the change proved to be successful! We had a great night full of competition, recognition of the best we can offer in print and lots of laughter and fun.”

Emma Nugent from IPG Print was awarded the highly acclaimed Printing Industries Southbank Institute of Technology Apprentice of the Year and Jarrod Smith from Geon Print and Communication Solutions received a gold award for his entry in Category 26 (Entry Produced by an Apprentice).

Neal McLary, state manager Queensland, Printing Industries says, “These are exceptional young people who justifiably deserve the accolades they have received for their consistent work. They are outstanding examples of the kind of people being nurtured by our member companies.”
