Polar cuts costs, boosts output

The Paperlinx group employees 10,000 staff world-wide and has operations in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, North America and Asia. In New Zealand it employs 125 staff and distributes its fine papers under the market brands Dalton Fine Paper and Spicers Paper.

“We found we were experiencing increased labour costs in our efforts to meet customer demand before we installed the Polar 115 X,” says National Operations Manager, Charles Miller.

“Since the installation we have experienced a 20 per cent increase in productivity while reducing costs.”

Charles praises the “advanced control features” of the Polar 115 X which has improved make-ready times from around 10 minutes per job to less than a minute. These include the 15″ colour display screen, cut-out light and Optiknife, a front knife change with knife lift feature.

The company evaluated the options available on the market and chose Heidelberg to supply the Polar for its capability to thoroughly evaluate the needs of the business and provide an appropriate solution.

“The installation was well planned and professional, within 24 hours we were up and running,” says Charles.

“Heidelberg’s reputation for world-class customer service along with the very latest cutting technology of the Polar 115 X made them a natural choice.”

The entire range of Polar cutters provides a cutting size from 78 cm to 176 cm. Top of the range is the XT model, which along with the X model, offers Polar’s P-Net which is a local area networking capability. The basic X model features graphic programming automation for a wide range of automatic operating cycles.

The Paperlinx installation was one of four installations of the new range of Polar cutters in Australia and New Zealand.

“The new drupa range features user enhancements that streamline delivery and build on the Polar brand’s reputation for unsurpassed precision, reliability and user friendliness, as these installations show,” says Rudi Kolbach, Product Manager, Postpress, Heidelberg.
