Two industry figures have urged printers to back their campaign to buy an amputee a wheelchair.
Pegasus Print Group’s national client relationship manager, Jacob Perkins, and Cheque-Mates chief executive Rodney Frost are trying to raise about $5,000.
Perkins told ProPrint that he recently bumped into 31-year-old Will, a double amputee, and was struck by his predicament. Will is severely restricted in his ability to get around because his wheelchair is very old and has no inflatable tyres.
“It’s something we can get behind that’s not going to cost a lot of dollars. The industry is always complaining about how it’s being treated, but here’s a young man who has no legs,” said Perkins.
“As an industry that has had some major hits over the past few years it would be great to show to the world that we still have a willingness to help those that are in need and worse off than ourselves.”
Frost also urged the print community to back the campaign, because “there’s power in numbers”.
Perkins and Frost have each pledged $100. ProPrint will also donate $100.
Donations can be made to the “Wheelchair for Will Trust Acc” that is registered with National Australia Bank. The account number is 822150278 and the BSB is 082067.
ProPrint will publish a follow-up story to praise everyone who donates to this appeal.
