Melbourne-based Printgraphics has continued doing its monthly clean since adopting ProSlimex in mid-2011, but production manager Jason King said it now took less time to flush out the 10-colour Komori Lithrone LS-1040P.
ProSlimex can be added to the tanks in the morning, the machine can run for a few hours, a dump can be made and then printing can resume, he added.
That allows the 40-person business to devote more time to printing, he said.
Bendigo outfit Express Printers has been running ProSlimex since 2010 on its eight-colour Komori Lithrone S29P.
Senior printer Marcus Scheuffele said that after upgrading from a four-colour Komori in 2008, he discovered slime was building up in the new alcohol-free machine.
That meant a time-consuming clean every month.
Two years later, Scheuffele decided to try ProSlimex, and said it worked better than he expected. “It was unbelievable what happened. It was like a brand new machine.”
Now, the six-person print shop only needs to clean every three months, according to Scheuffele.
Böttcher managing director Mitchell Mulligan said ProSlimex was a boon for productivity.
“Your standard system cleaners need to be removed entirely from the press fount, which of course impacts negatively on a press room’s efficiency,” he said.
“They then require the pumps to run for up to four hours and be filled with fresh water, drained and then run for a further four hours.
“The new system requires pumps to run for just an hour, having had 10% of ProSlimex added to the old fount.
“It then only needs the bio film to be removed from the filter, the tank drained and cleaned by hand and filled with fresh fountain solution.”
