KBA unveils changeable blade chamber system to cut set-up times by a third

KBA has claimed that a changeable blade system it has developed for its Genius 52UV press can cut set-up times by up to 40%.

The system, developed for the waterless and keyless press by KBA-MetroPrint, means that rather than removing ink from a blade chamber using a spatula, the blade chamber is itself removable from the printing units, saving time in the cleaning process.

The closed system means lower use of detergents for cleaning, which, according to the firm, leads to a reduced environmental impact, and the chambers can also be refilled.

The product is available in Australia through Jet Technologies with the first installation already taken place at IBS Cards on the Gold coast.

IBS general manager Michael Cuverwell says that the 18-staff company is enjoying the benefits of the changeable system.

“The Genius 52UV press has revolutionised our facility and the quick-change-tray has allowed us to cut times dramatically in terms of refilling our inks,” he said

“All-in-all with the Genius we have gone from a one-week turnaround to a two-day turnaround.”

KBA UK managing director Christian Knapp added: “In today’s print production there is even more emphasis on set-up times and productivity. Especially with smaller job sizes, every job change means lost time – and it does not matter whether only the printing plates are replaced or a complete ink change is made.
