Record breaking PrintEx opens

With a record breaking number of exhibitors, around 200, demonstrating their wares, and the industry currently in positive mood it is likely to be a busy few days. PrintEx has kept to the shell stand scheme concept to a certain degree, but visitors this time will see bigger stands from the major players.

Given the logistics of putting equipment in, the exhibition will also have a preponderance of wide format machines on show, leading the casual visitor to conclude it is a display print expo. However much of the real focus will be on digital workflow and improving productivity, which are increasingly seen as key to lowering cost per page.

Highlights will include Heidelberg's Anicolor, the innovative new inking and dampening solution, which the company says enables makeready in less than 20 sheets. The big digital print vendors including HP Indigo, Fuji Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta, will all have new solutions on display. New small format CTP units are on several stands. Finishing equipment will also be prominent, Curries for instance will have the first Aussie outing for the new Horizon perfect binder.

PrintEx is open until 9pm tonight.
