Now called Renz Masterbind, the specialist in double loop ring wire binding is headed by Rod Fowler, whose father Doug started up Masterbind International in 1981 and built up the Renz name in Australia.

“I started importing Renz 20 years ago, when it was an unknown brand,” says Doug.

“Masterbind had more Renz sales per capita in the office market than in any other country – including Renz’s home country of Germany,” adds Rod.

When Doug made the decision to retire from the business five years ago, Renz owner Peter Renz showed interest. The deal was finally cemented when Peter spoke to Rod at PacPrint last year, and just over six months later Renz Masterbind was born, the company’s stock size trebling and a move made to a larger warehouse.

Rod has done a few stints at Masterbind in the past and has an IT background, having worked all over the world with reputable companies such as IBM and PRISM Europe.

It was a specific request of Peter’s that Rod head up and have equity in the new company.

With his retirement now a done deal, Doug will officially leave the company at the end of February, but will work with them on a project basis.

On top of the service offered by Masterbind over the years, Doug says the company’s success has been largely due to the high quality products they offer, of which there is now an even wider range.

“Renz offers precision in its big equipment, and this is brought down and applied at its office level equipment. It’s built well and lasts long,” says Doug. “Now that we are housing more stock, we believe the market for ring wire will grow even more, because we can offer more flexibility.
