Rotometrics covers the die cutting spectrum

Rebecca Cane, customer service manager for Rotometrics, says, “At our Melbourne plant, we manufacture flexible dies, rotary dies, hot foil cylinders and anvils.”

US-based Rotometrics has a regional manufacturing facility in Broadmeadows, Melbourne, employing over 60 staff, producing high quality precision flexible cutting dies for converting industries, including label and tag and, in recent times, the sheet fed printing and converting markets.

Cane says, “We work closely with material and machinery suppliers and we provide technical support as well. We offer comprehensive technical support and complementary training programmes to assist the new converters understanding of flexible die cutting technologies.”

The company offers a range of flexible die cutting options including metal to metal, kiss cutting and multi-layer. Cane adds that it can manufacture flexible dies to incorporate creasing (cartons, presentation folders) perforating (standard perforations) duel or multi-height, two or three blades can be provided on one die to cut multi-level piggy back substrates. Cutting, creasing, perforations and multi-heights can all be incorporated on one die.

She says, “We work with clients to find out exactly what substrate is being converted and advising of the best product to convert that particular substrate. A critical aspect of the die cutting process is to understand the micron thickness of the substrate, this in turn ensures the flexible die is manufactured to the tightest tolerance and is suited to the substrate.

The process for obtaining a flexible die involves clients sending Rotometrics a PDF file for an order, details of numbers of die cut images required on the Flex Die, a data sheer or details of substrate. It can provide a quote within a couple of hours. Lead times vary but simple shapes can ship within 48 hours. Flex die pricing is based on complexity, the geometrics of the die line; lineal centimetres, the overall amount of rule on a die; creasing, perorations and multi-level all ad cost to the flexible die.

Cane concludes, “We are here at PacPrint for our customers. We have the lion’s share of the market in Australasia and we have reps that look after each state and New Zealand.”
