Royal baby alert: New Idea ‘changes’ cover after mags printed

The old edition, which went on sale on 22 July, featured Katie Holmes on the cover. Readers who scan the cover with the Netpage app will see a new version appear on their smartphone – a shot of Prince William and Duchess Kate underneath the headline "It's a boy!".

The new cover also features a mock tweet from New Idea: "The Queen has revealed she's thrilled by the #RoyalBaby's birth, describing him as 'a big boy'. She also says the first born is very special."

Editor-in-chief Kim Wilson said: "New Idea updated this week’s issue with new royal heir news, video and images, allowing readers to go beyond the printed page with live, interactive royal news content."

Pacific Magazines is the first local publisher to use Netpage, while Australia is the second country in the world to have launched the app.

The technology also allowed readers to share New Idea’s royal baby content through social media, email or SMS.
