The paper manufactured at Australian Paper’s Shoalhaven mill underwent a full three-scope life cycle assessment before its associated carbon output was reduced and offset using landfill flaring and investment in renewable energy sources.
Samantha Pudney, business development manager at Australian Paper told Australian Printer that the move accompanied Australian Paper’s focus on improving its ‘triple bottom line’ footprint, which incorporates the environmental, social and economic impacts of its products.
She says, “Our Envi range has been in the market for a few years now and it was a natural progression to bring more of our grades into our sustainable range. Organisations are becoming more aware of their operation’s footprint so we are expecting the new carbon neutral Saxton to be well received by the market.”
Pudney continues, “The new Saxton will be of increasing importance to organisations reporting their environmental impacts as we can provide verified data of the amount of carbon our product has offset, which they can include in their own reports. This is a genuine carbon neutral paper certified to ISO standards, which means end users can be confident it’s greenwash free ”
Also according to Australian Paper, the end user of the paper will be able to display the greenhouse friendly logo, which is certified by the Australian government. The move to carbon neutral incorporates all of Saxton paper’s grades.
