Stadium Signs has picked up a Mimaki JFX 200 from Spicers in the rush to fire out jobs for the AFL grand final. Melbourne’s MCG plays host to big name brands for the football clash, but Stadium says their ads are more than a printed board. Pamela Hammond, director and sales and marketing manager, says, “It is a great responsibility. Big name brands that approach Stadium Signs are not just after a one-dimensional sign to stick on the wall.

“They are after brand theatre or a brand experience, to really engage the consumer in the brand rather than just being a passive observer. “We love the sporting culture and to be involved in it on this level is a great thrill.” Hammond says colour matching is particularly important for this kind of work, and contributed to the purchase of the Mimaki JFX 200. She says, “When you think that at the Grand Final alone there are almost 100,000 people present, not to mention those watching at home, there is no room for error. It needs to look brilliant. “We did a lot of research into flatbed printers but we just kept coming back to Mimaki, every time. When you consider the amount of time we save, as well as materials and labour, it was a sensible purchase. We are not risk takers.” The company swapped its Mimaki JV5 roll to roll for the JFX 200, and had it up and running within a week, printing 27 nine-metre long signs for the MCG in three hours. Hammond says, “They were then installed the next morning. That is a phenomenal turnaround. “An urgent job came in and we realised we only had one piece of spare Corflute left over. We were praying nothing went wrong. And absolutely nothing did, it was amazing. We were all high-fiving each other.” Warren Davey, sales executive for Spicers, says Stadium says is the first in Victoria to install this brand of flatbed. He says Spicers is interested in helping customers grow their business with new revenue streams, rather than just selling machines.
