Starting at the MCA in Circular Quay the employees walked 15kms for Walk to Work Day to their Sydney office, raising $10,000 for the Steve Waugh Foundation while celebrating physical activity and a healthy lifestyle in the workplace. Ian Flemington, general manager of human resources and communications with Canon Australia, tells Australian Printer, “We have had a link with the Pedestrian Council for a couple of years, conducting the Walk to Work. We know from discovery sessions we have run with our employees internally that one of the key things people like about working here and hold as important is being active. “So the Walk fits really well with how our employees want to behave in the workplace, it is a natural alignment. The ability to raise some funds along the way is an added bonus.” Flemington, who himself jogged from the harbour to the office, says morale was high for the morning’s event. He says, “It was a fantastic atmosphere down at the MCA. The vibe was amazing; with such a high-profile celebrity the buzz within the employees was incredible. We raised $10,000 for the Steve Waugh Foundation – we think the work that organisation does is just amazing, it is certainly a worthy cause.”
