The MIS developer has put much development focus into the area of JDF this year and is quickly establishing its platform as the hub of any JDF workflow.

Tharstern was giving demonstrations of its JDF compatibility on the stand at drupa. The ability to interface with JDF controllers throughout the workflow and to communicate and receive information makes the MIS a far more powerful tool than in the past.

With the rapid emergence and adoption of JDF over recent months, the MIS is the hub of the workflow, says Tharstern’s Eamon Booth.

Tharstern has a mature MIS product, and the benefits it provides to printers are tangible, Booth says. The benefits of the system have been further enhanced by JDF, and will improve further as the standard is further developed and accepted. Imposition, for example, is now an almost instant process, occurring at the click of a mouse.

Also, Tharstern’s MIS software is able to search very large databases very quickly, giving users access to a huge range of information with very little delay.

Together with JDF interoperability, the Tharstern products are powerful for printers. Booth says that companies involved in beta testing of JDF have reported 7-10 per cent increases in productivity.

Tharstern is traditionally an early adopter of new technologies and JDF has been no exception. Booth estimates that 90 per cent of the company’s JDF setup was in place by March.

Tharstern’s products are equally accessible for printers of all sizes because the company’s price structure is arranged by number of users.
