Vega takes out second green award

A statement commending the award winners said, “The Sustainable Business Award went to Vega Press for being a leader in running a successful business, whilst reducing their impact on the environment.

“Vega Press achieved excellent results in waste reduction and increased its recycling rates. The business has also influenced others, convincing their suppliers to change their practices by questioning their environmental credentials.”

Commenting on the latest win, Rob Nugent, commercial manager at Vega Press told Australian Printer, “We are trying to demonstrate that print is a sustainable industry and help people understand that printed media is more environmentally friendly than computers.”

Nugent continues, “We are taking action because sooner or later Australian businesses will need to get ready for an emissions trading scheme. It also makes good business sense as it enables us to attract good employees, save money and attract customers.”

The company has purchased carbon offsets as well as implemented a number of systems that has cut its water consumption by 50 per cent, energy usage by 20 per cent and waste to land fill by 50 per cent.

In 2008, Vega signed a low CO2 emissions monitoring contract and certification plan with The Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI), who Vega commissioned to develop the most effective strategy for offsetting its carbon footprint.
